A Landmark Since 1946

THE MARINES’ MEMORIAL CLUB WELCOMES YOU

For more than seventy years San Francisco’s Marines’ Memorial Club has stood in honor of the memory of the men and women who served in defense of our nation. Since 1946, Marines’ Memorial Club has honored the legacy of military service through a living memorial, hotel and theatre that both serve and commemorate the Veterans of all eras. Providing exceptional San Francisco lodging and dining with spectacular city views, our Club stands out as both a landmark and a hospitality institution.

The flagship Marines’ Memorial Club is located in the heart of downtown San Francisco, just off Union Square and the cable cars. This handsome Beaux Arts-style building offers an inviting club atmosphere that is rich with history, honor and pride. Owned and operated by the Marines’ Memorial Association, a 501(c) (19) Veterans Non-Profit Organization, Marines’ Memorial Club is the first ever “Living Memorial” in the United States, offering historic exhibits featuring American military history from all eras, and a library and museum with artifacts and books donated by grateful members, Veterans and their families.

The club offers 138 first class guestrooms, elegant and spacious suites, a rooftop restaurant and bar, the 564-seat Marines’ Memorial Theatre, once home to the legendary Actors’ Workshop, and exquisite ballrooms for meetings and special events. The Club does not charge a Resort Fee or an Early Departure Fee. Marines’ Memorial Club & Hotel is the ideal choice among San Francisco Union Square hotels for leisure travel, social gatherings and reunions as well as corporate meetings and events and welcomes club members and guests.

Membership in the Marines’ Memorial Club is open to all former, active duty and Veterans who served honorably in all branches of the United States Armed Forces.

Since 2005, by virtue of Veterans’ and supporters of the mission, the Association is able to offer free annual membership to all Currently Serving members of the US Armed Forces who join the Club.

In 2015, the Marines’ Memorial Association established the Marines’ Memorial Foundation, a 501(c) (3) Charitable Organization, in support of efforts to expand the ability of Veterans and Patriot Supporters to contribute to and participate in helping us achieve our mission. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

An exceptional stay with great service, stunning views, and unique character. . .

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The location is perfect for visiting the city, everything is easily accessible and very convenient. The staff was excellent: welcoming, helpful, and genuinely kind throughout our stay. It really made a difference. We also loved the gym, which is well-equipped and very clean. The breakfast was outstanding, with a great variety of options and absolutely amazing views. our son was waiting for it each morning! The daily happy hour was a lovely bonus, and the on-site restaurant is very convenient and offers great food. What truly makes this hotel special is its character and personality. The Marine Corps theme gives it a unique identity, with beautiful historical photos and meaningful memorials throughout the property. It adds depth and charm to the experience and makes the stay even more memorable. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!

Excellent and Spotless Hotel in SF

via Booking.com:

Entire stay was at or above my expectations. Staff was polite and responsive. The entire. hotel was spotless and well maintained. The included buffet breakfast was good and plentiful with hot and cold meat, starch, vegetables, and fruit salad, though the excellent Acme bread at dinner had been “thrown out” and replaced with thin sliced tasteless white and wheat bread. Wi-fi was fast (but see below) The hallway walls are like a museum of US Marine Corps memorabilia and photographs. Pristine white and thick towels in the bathroom were a pleasure to use (and made in USA!). 0 ) Wi-fi would not connect with some web sites. Do they use a “nanny internet” controller? Juice glasses at breakfast were tiny–enough for one or two small sips. I did ask for and eventually got a somewhat larger glass both mornings I was a guest.

Great Catering!

I attended a conference held on the 11th floor. Beautiful rooms with spectacular city views. The food was amazing and so was the staff. Talked with some guests staying at the hotel. They were very satisfied. One said they got a really good deal around 100 something dollars which is a steal in the Union square area. I enjoyed looking at all the memorabilia in this classical building.

Service: 5.0 | Location: 5.0
Hotel Highlights: Great view · Romantic · Great value
Nearby Activities: Convenient, plenty of shops, restaurants and art gallery. Good public transportation. Cable car a block away. Union square and BART few blocks down the hill. This is the old San Francisco area you see in movies like Vertigo. There’s supposed to be a ‘little French quarter’ nearby.
Safety: Be on the lookout like any with other big city. Seems like the environment has improved greatly since covid.
Walkability: A little bit of hill that makes San Francisco famous.
Food & Drinks: Great catering
Noteworthy Details: Historical building with great view.

5 out of 5!

We stayed at the Marine Memorial Club for over two decade and it never disappoints us. Although we have the ability to stay at other hotels, the MMC is special and our go to hotel when we are in SF. The staff is very special: they are long serving and greet us by name. During and after COVID they had limited gym facilities which was disappointing, but the relatively new gym is fantastic. My wife and I are very focused on fitness, and were thrilled to see the impressive selection of equipment available. The inclusion of a Concept 2 erg, which I love and have at home, was a standout feature that even many larger commercial gyms do not offer, I would recommend the Marine’s Memorial Club to friends and family.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel near Union Square. The hotel is very unique and is a living memorial to the Marine Corps. Almost like a museum on each floor. The rooms are very comfortable. Nice desk, comfortable chair and desk and good bed and linens. Bathrooms are a little small, but have everything you need. Staff is super friendly and helpful. The breakfast (included) was outstanding. The view from the restaurant looking over the city is breathtaking! Happy hour at night in Chesty’s Bar (included) is great and seems right out of a movie. The hotel’s location right off of Union Square means it is close to everything and well connected by public transport to anything in town. Didn’t even use a car for the entire stay!

We stayed for 4 days in May ’25 . It’s a beautiful place with great staff and the room was huge and very clean. Location was great as it’s literally 2 blocks or streets over from Union Square where you will find Macy’s and Tiffany’s and a beautiful clean seating area in the square. Sadly Saks has been closed down. The hotel is very handy to get to if you are coming from the train station, as soon as you come up and out of the station you walk up 3 blocks following the old cable car tracks and turn left on shutter street. There’s a small but beautiful Italian restaurant next door to the hotel too . An Irish bar 2 blocks down and a great dinner cross the street. If you have any walking issues you might be better to get a taxi. We had a complementary breakfast service and it is a fantastic breakfast. The views are spectacular of the city , this is not a luxury hotel but a really nice one with all round fantastic service.

Just WOW! I had the pleasure of attending a wedding here, and I was stunned from the first step I walked into this building. The staff are friendly and kind, but most of all, the wedding venue was everything a couple could ask for. I had the pleasure of photographing a wedding here, and honestly thinking about having mine here as well. You’re allowed to book the entire floor, just enough room for all your wedding events like getting ready photos, first look photos, and of course your reception. Overall great service, the only thing I will consider is parking for your guests as it can get tricky.

Loved this hotel. Stayed here for superbowl week and my husband and I were pleased beyond expectations with the comfortable quiet room, huge varied breakfast buffet, awesome staff (Mario, Sebastian and Ken were standout), and the gym was top notch as well with a huge lap pool. The 2 free happy hour drinks per person was an awesome touch. The hotel itself is a bit dated but it’s part of its charm and the rooftop view is amazing. 10 stars!

Safety: There is some sketchy folk around but it is San Francisco but a few streets from the hotel were pretty shocking. But they didn’t seem dangerous, in their own worlds finding their next fix. Sad this is the case but didn’t feel threatened.

“I mean, WOW!”

I mean, WOW! The service is unforgettable in this hotel. This might be a 3-star hotel but the service makes it feel like a 5-star. When you walk in you’re greeted by staff immediately after walking into their grand foyer. The place is packed with memorabilia and facts about our servicemen and women. They have upgraded some feature such as the elevator that will take you directly to your floor, no need to stop on different floors for other people to catch the elevator.

The rooms are nice. We had a corner room that gave us views on two sides of the room. The room also comes with robes that you can use during your visit. While the bathroom sinks seem to be newer, the showers could use an upgrade but they’re not bad. Room service comes everyday or when you request it and they do an excellent job.

There’s free breakfast which is not your typical continental breakfast, this was the real deal! Some days you order and are served and some days they have a buffet. Breakfast is served from 730-930 am. They have a daily happy hour from 4-6pm with very strong drinks! You can order just about anything.

This hotel is our go-to while staying in SF because we know that we’ll be treated kindly and have a nice clean place to rest. It’s also located in the middle of everything in Union Square and at the bottom of Nob Hill. If you’re up to it, you could walk the city from this location. – Jasmine W. (via Yelp)

Excellent value near Union Square

Excellent value, service and location. Convenient, secure parking nearby. Free hot buffet breakfast in a rooftop lounge (great city views) adds to the value, convenience and pleasure. No-brainer to stay here if attending an event in the Marines Memorial Theatre, which we did.

My wife and I had tickets to an event in the theatre, so staying at the hotel seemed like a good idea. The hotel recommends parking at the Olympic Club Garage, a half block away. It’s valet parking, but secure and convenient. I made an online reservation and was glad I did, because the parking was “full” when we arrived, but we could park with our reservation info (I printed it out, which aided check-in). The parking is a bit old school, with attendants running around to get cars. Olympic Club members also use the garage. It can get busy. Make sure your garage reservation times are what you need.

Our clean and basic hotel room was perfectly good. Comfy king bed. Everything worked fine. The bathroom is tight and the shower a bit dated, but worked fine. Hotel staff was very nice. After the theatre event, we we able to fine late-night dining about 2 blocks away at the lively, excellent Japanese-sushi restaurant, Ryoko, on Taylor Street.

Next morning, we loved the self-serve complimentary breakfast buffet: eggs, potatoes, burritos, grilled veggies, sausage, bacon, pasties, pancakes, yogurt, cereal, coffee, tea, etc. My GF wife was delighted to see yummy GF pastries and hot foods labeled GF. Lots of staff were around to check on tables, buffet, etc. A bonus was the outstanding 12th floor city view. A mix of old and new architecture.

After breakfast (closes at 9:30 am), we appreciated the later noon check-out because it gave us ample time to walk around nearby Union Square and dip a little into Chinatown. We walked about a 6×6 block area, enjoying the holiday decorations and vibe.

I’m a 60-year-old native of the Bay Area, visit SF frequently, and have stayed in 20+ SF hotels. This was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve had. Definitely will be back.

Support Veteran services. . .

If you are a veteran or would like to support veteran services please visit while in San Francisco. The restaurant/bar and the staff are phenomenal. Go in for a happy hour cocktail and gaze out wall of windows into the city below. Follow it up seated in the dining room with some appetizers a bottle of wine and the prime rib. – Bobby O. This Hotel is Amazing!

This hotel is amazing and has everything a guest could need and more!
1. Great location- in Union Square , close to cable car and shopping.
2.Clean hotel and courteous staff
3. Amazing views especially from the rooftop restaurant
4. Spacious rooms, but don’t miss the hidden safe and mini fridge that are built into the dresser (like we did)
5. Complementary happy hour, bar area is quite small so get there early.
6. Amazing hot breakfast! wish I had pictures of it but did not want to invade anybody while they ate;) breakfast bar had many, many choices. For example: made to order omelettes, fresh fruit, pastries, biscuits and gravy, cereal, sausage, bacon, hashbrowns. Just to name a few.
7. Onsite gym, museum, theater, business center, etc.

The View is Spectacular!

I treated my Husband and myself to two nights in a suite for John’s birthday, which is also our Wedding Anniversary! We had a wonderful time! Clean, comfortable rooms, complete with “spa robes”! We ordered room service both evenings, as I had a slight cold(didn’t affect my appetite!).
Delicious calamari, cioppino, prime rib, garlic fries perfectly crispy, retro iceberg wedge salad to-die-for…
I swam in the crystal clear pool to work off some calories!
Sarge in Reception is so polite, friendly and efficient! He is a real asset to MMC!
Alex, the concierge is also charming!
We have joined the Club and we definitely will return!
P.S. The breakfast and the view is spectacular!- Maureen D.

A Must Stay For Marines; Everyone else: All I can say is you need to experience it!

An awesome hotel, but focus on the “Memorial” part . . . . awesome historical artifacts . . . great view of the city from the restaurant . . . AWESOME breakfast! Very clean, excellent employees (particularly the concierge), and did I say AWESOME breakfast . . . included in the cost, which is very reasonable for downtown San Francisco.
