Marines' Memorial Theatre
Built in 1926, the historic Marines’ Memorial Theatre is an intimate 564-seat jewel box theatre located in the heart of San Francisco’s theatre district between Union Square and Nob Hill. Recently renovated to expand the lobby and upgrade the orchestra seating to be much more comfortable, our historic Union Square theatre is available as a setting for events in San Francisco, including keynotes, celebrations, educational presentations and more. We are also dedicated to bringing the best national, international and local Music, Dance, Author Talks & Lectures and theatrical or film presentations to Bay Area audiences.
Marines’ Memorial Theatre has a rich history, with many classic events in its past. In addition to being the former home of the Actors Workshop and American Conservatory Theatre, our theatre has hosted presentations by legendary performers such as Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Jean Stapleton, Lynn Redgrave, and many others.

Historic San Francisco Venue
The Marines’ Memorial Theatre is an intimate 564-seat jewel box theatre located in the heart of San Francisco’s theatre district between Union Square and Nob Hill. Our historic San Francisco venue was built in 1926 to bring the best national, international and local Music, Dance, Author Talks & Lectures and theatrical/film presentations to Bay Area audiences. Our theatre is a well-known resource for local corporate and civic groups along with charitable organizations.
Legendary Performances
Our San Francisco venue has hosted a number of legendary performances, including Stomp!, Angels in America by Tony Kushner, Forever Tango, Camino Real by Tennessee Williams and Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. In addition to acclaimed live performances, the Marines’ Memorial Theatre is also used as a venue for speakers, presentations, corporate events, celebrations and more.
Currently under direct management of the Marines’ Memorial Association and Theater 33 LLC, the theatre proudly presents live theatrical performances as well as inspiring speakers and presentations.
Sales and Seating
All Sales Final
All sales are final. There are no refunds or exchanges.
Late Seating
Performances begin promptly. Seating for latecomers will be held until an appropriate time during the show and is at the discretion of the theatre management and production staff. Latecomers may be given alternate seats to minimize disturbance to the audience and performers. The lobby bar opens 60 minutes before the show and seating opens 30 minutes before the show. Thank you for arriving early.
Age Limit and Equipment

Every person entering the theatre must have a ticket. Babes-in-arms and children younger than 5 years old are not allowed.
Recording Equipment
No recording devices are permitted in the theatre unless specifically posted. If a camera or recording device is used during the performance, it may be confiscated by theatre staff.
