- My wife and I found the Berkeley City Club to be and unique and wonderful experience during a recent three night stay. It is an elegant 1920's vintage hotel near the UC campus, and was designed by Julia Morgan, the architect for the Heast Castle. It is called the "little castle", and you will see why--, cement arches among other castle qualities. The hotel has many sumptuous rooms on the first and second floor for lounging, including a logia alongside a garden and courtyard, and huge library with concert grand piano--I played that instrument as well as other pianos in the hotel at will. Our room was very small but well appointed, on the 6th floor, which is the top, with a magnificent view of the bay and San Francisco. There was no T.V., they say to conform to the era--it was not missed. The room had a large- walk in closet that easily accomodated two suitcases. There is a common refrigerator and microwave on the first floor. The dining room was wonderful with great food and service. The room comes with a complimentary well stocked continental breakfast. We even saw a play there in a very intimate setting with only 70 in the audience. The hotel has a beautiful indoor pool similar to that in Heast Castle. The reciprocal club rates were comparable to MMC, and we found the staff tp be very personable and courteous. One caveat--constructiion is going on next door as of Nov 2013, and is noisy during the week. Overall this is great little gem and just across the bay.

- Warm, welcoming, wonderful space indoors and outdoors. Oh yes, the cuisine and chef are superior.
- I learned that they do not offer overnight accommodations
- Posted 7/31/21: We enjoyed a "spur of the moment" reservation for dinner which the kindly accepted with the showing of my MMC membership card. The food and service were very good, and the outside seating was beautiful. It was a memorable evening and we certainly look forward to returning. - Michael Urette

- Posted on July 1, 2017 at 9:24pm - "Quite well known as the Industry Hills Golf Club as well as Pacific Palms Resort in Southern California. As affiliate club members we have the privilege to use all the facilities at the resort as well as the two professional level golf courses. If you like golf, this resort is definitely worthy of consideration. This is a real “deal” as membership there is $499/yr. Enjoy the views, pool, and gym as well as superior restaurants and bar. However, you’re on your own for transportation and tours. Front desk staff was very friendly and professional and my reservation received extraordinary attention. Room rates at this time of year are not very different than our own. Rooms are equipped with WiFi and a pay-as-you-go mini bar, not much else in the way of amenities. Breakfast is not included in standard rate nor is there any special member happy hour. But, I treated myself to a bit of luxury and cooler weather than Phoenix while I awaited an event in Los Angeles. Recommend planning a visit." - Marie Shadden, LtCol, USAF (ret)

- We recently stayed at the Ingomar Club and it was very pleasant. Ramon was very helpful with the reservation. We will be definitely be going back that way for a bit longer next time. Amazing Staff.
- Posted 11/8/2020 - I stayed here October 29, 2020 - what a treat! Fantastic facility - one of the most photographed Victorian buildings in the country. Very close to revised downtown boutiques, waterfront and restaurants. Clean, beautiful grounds, generous accomodations. The dinner was so great I made sure to eat lunch there the next day. Staff was professional, friendly and eager to help. The General Manager, Tim Walker, checked on me while dining. The staff clearly has pride in their facility. I can't say enough about it!! - Sonia Menenberg
- We attended the graduation ceremonies of my niece at Humboldt State on May 15,2015. Afterwards, our party of twelve had lunch at the Ingomar Club. While I don't believe the Club normally accommodates such a large group for lunch on Saturdays, they graciously did so for our family. I would just confirm what the other postings stated about the club: the setting, food and staff are all delightful. My special thanks to Ramon Ranoco, assistant to the general manager, who has a special skill at making you feel welcome. Our lunch served as an exclamation point to my niece's memory of her special day. (I'd also compliment the MMC for establishing a relationship with such a historic club in the far reaches of California.)
- We visited on Oct 13, 2014. This is a strickingly beautiful Victorian building with a grand history available in a brochure for $5. We received a tour from Ramon Ranoco, Assistant to the General Manager, when we arrived without notice, but you can't count on that. We were just lucky.. There are docents to conduct formal tours if you let them know when you are arriving. There are overnight accomodations in another building next door if you want to stay there. I an sure the dining room is wonderful for lunch or dinner daily Tuesday-Saturday. I was short on time & could not work that in. I had planned to visit on Monday evening but it is closed on Sunday & Monday. The bar looks like a "Must Visit." in the evening. I certainly wil do that next time.
- Our second dinner at the Ingomar Club. After trying other restaurants in the area we felt lucky to be able to return to the Ingomar Club for dinner. The Service was excellent as was the food. Over looking the bay, it was wonderful. Now if I could only get the manager to part with the glorious Coulter painting at the end of the room! Only place to get a decent dinner in Eureka, with professional service! Try it your will like it.
- My wife is from Eureka and had never been to the Ingomar Club. It is worth the visit, the food and service was exceptional. I was able to take my wife's whole family and we had a view of the bay and it was not crowded at all. Even though our website at the Marine Corps Memorial Club states rooms are not available I was offered overnight accommodations. I did not stay there but next time I will. It was business casual for dinner and it is worth seeing.
- Had a wonderful lunch at this beautiful club. Non members can only admire the building from outside the closed gate and join the throngs of picture takers. Our lunch of dungeness crab sandwich was exceptional as was the view of Humboldt Bay from our table. After lunch our server told us we were welcome to take the self guided tour of the mansion which was worth the price of lunch. If you are a Marines Memorial Member you can also have this rare experience.
- Don't over look an opportunity to dine at this amazing restored Victorian. The woodwork alone is over the top not to mention the stained glass windows. We dined in an area just off the spacious bar with views of the Humboldt Bay. Piano music was playing in the background...while we dined on lobster bisque, duck, crab stuffed prawns...and watched the sunset...don't miss this. The food is the best in the area...with warm friendly service..dress is business casual...jacket suggested. Most enjoyable experience in a Victoria setting with a view!

- First, see the 2yr old video, then walk the grounds, needs cleaning outdoor furniture was very stained...They charge $30 membership fee, no care at all, I was so disappointed with the very dirty/stained and out dated outdoor furniture the key to the place...Mgmt has traded hands 2 or 3x.. This has to be hard on the Team, but they try to be pleasant, you see it...Lots of tennis and swimming..

- Posted on 6/27/2021: I live in LA and needed a place to meet friends from San Diego that was roughly halfway in between, so I picked Balboa Bay Club. Had lunch by myself, worked for a few hours, then met my friends for happy hour. An excellent facility overall. Great location right on the water, wonderful service, and excellent facilities. Private member grill had tasty food and a relaxed environment with just the right amount of space. Free valet and free access to the grill. If you want to use any of the other facilities, there's a $35 day charge (which is well worth it given the free valet). Highly recommend. ~ ML
- Posted on April 10, 2017 at 5:46pm - "My wife and two teenage girls visited April 2017. We stayed at the Balboa Bay Resort Hotel at the reciprocal member rate; included free parking and use of Balboa Bay Club facilities in a separate building co-located with the resort (the club has small a separate bar/dining room and great Sunday brunch!).The reciprocal package also included a free bottle of wine (a good one too!) in our room. Club includes workout facilities, steam and sauna (over 18 only). The big beautiful resort pool was under renovation (reopening in May 2017). Kids were allowed to use smaller club lap pool surrounded by a good number of tables with umbrellas and a poolside bar which was a plus. Great visit. Recommended! The service was uniformly attentive and friendly (front desk, valet parking, food service). Mgt. is doing a good job building an customer focused ethic employees all seem to buy into. One single word of caution: your final bill gets loaded up with a myriad of lodging/room taxes so the final total will be much, much higher than the quoted room rate." - Jonathan Mosier
- Had an outstanding day at Balboa Beach Club. Spent the afternoon on their private beach and rented a kayak and paddle board. Great food, great location and very friendly staff. Highly recommended!
